Industry News - Society of American Florists (SAF) News

This was a "high five" day for us at SAF. We just secured Cinda Baxter as the keynote speaker for SAF's 125th annual conven350_project_web_paneltion, SAF Phoenix 2009, Sept. 23-26. Baxter is getting a lot of media coverage lately for her 3/50 project, which is "saving the brick and mortars our nation is built on." We wrote about her effort a few weeks ago in SAF's Wednesday E-Brief. Her strategy: to get every employed consumer to spend a total of $50 a month at three local, independently owned businesses. And she's doing some pretty effective viral marketing to make it happen. But she is also an accomplished speaker, consultant, author and for 14 years, a small business owner.

During the last month or so, we've talked to several potential keynoters, but after just 10 minutes on the phone with Cinda, we were thoroughly impressed with her enthusiasm and freshness, as well as the wisdom she shared with us -- she absolutely "gets" the floral industry. Her theme on Thursday morning of the convention will be "Dare to be Exceptional" when, as Cinda says, she will "take your business from the mundane to the miraculous regardless of size." Not only will she be motivational, but you'll take home business building tips you can use right away. You can learn more about her by reading her blog, Always Upward.
